Lithography Workshop

Today I had an exciting day at the lithography workshop, learning the processes of etching. Here are a few photos to give you an idea, my work isn't done however, because I had to leave the black gunk to dry overnight on my plate and tomorrow I will work on the zinc plate with a process caller Aquatint, which basically involves dust to create tonal values on the etched drawing.

Theater Marchenhutte

I discovered this lovely wooden outdoor theatre, last sunday, as my flatmate and I were going into town for a very late lunch. That was one of the few days I hadn't brought my camera, and I suffered a little inside, because I just wanted to explore this wonderful structure and photograph it's every angle. It is simply amazing! This afternoon I was heading home and it was that lovely time of day, the sun was setting, so the light was magnificent (luckily I had my camera on me), so I headed back down to this place. This I though, could contribute to my new personal project based on light.

Spreepark

Geoffroy, Pierre, Lucas and myself decided to take a look around the "verboten" Spreepark today, to get a feel for the place. Our intention was to enter into the park but there were far too many patrols men and passers-by, there's no way we could have entered unnoticed. Nevertheless, we've chosen this abandoned theme park as our new location for filming some personal projects. We shall return in the near future (I will not disclose the exact date). We'll be packed out in gear- warm clothes, food, torches, tripods, cameras and other gear to make movies all through the night, and among all the madness, try capturing the sunrise in the morning.

Andre Wagner

I found this photographer while browsing through a website and I instantly warmed to the photos, as he uses light as the emphasis and also works with nature (two things I adore). He is also an excellent link and a brand new inspiration to a personal project based on Light and Space, which I have decided to start next week. Wagner is participating in a group show, here in Berlin so definitely go have a look!

Potsdam, Sansouci

One of the professors kindly took a few of us exchange students today to the magical place of Sansouci in Potsdam, a lovely old town just outside of Berlin.

Frank Leder

The style of Frank Leder has always been at the back of my mind, particularly the first photograph, and it's only now that I am living in Berlin that I've seen it from a fresh perspective. My impression of the photos is that Leder presents us with a light mockery of the cold and deadly stern mindsets that Germans are infamous for. Their wit also suggests a more theatrical side to Leder's work. This insight has been the inspiration for new ideas in film and photography. The films may revolve around collaboration and the photographs, around light. That's all I will say for now. Thank you.
